Fiskars has voluntarily recalled its popular pole saws (model numbers 9463, 9440, and 9441) because the telescoping poles can separate when in use. This can cause the blades to fall from several feet in the air, posing a laceration hazard.

If you purchased one, Fiskars will give you a full refund—plus a cathartic solution for disposing of the defective product. Read on to learn more.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), approximately 562,680 units were sold in the U.S. and Canada between December 2016 and September 2020. The saws were available at home improvement and hardware stores as well as on Fiskars’ website.

The saws feature an oval-shape fiberglass handle with an aluminum telescoping pole that extends from 7 feet to 16 feet to cut high tree branches with either a pruning blade or a hooked wood saw blade. There are two orange C-clamps and two orange lock buttons on the handle. The Fiskars logo and UPC code containing the model number are also on the handle.
