The new 2024 Ford Mustang is here, and Ford is already giving customers ways in which they can improve performance by offering an optional Performance Package which adds track-oriented features to the legendary sports car. Let’s go through the Performance Package together, from the front of the S650 to the rear.
Right up at the front of the S650 Mustang is an auxiliary oil cooler to keep all the spinny bits at the optimal temperature. Also keeping things cool is a set of brake ducts for the 390mm front Brembo discs, which bring the wider wheels and tires (front and back) to a halt.
The steering ratio has been made quicker in the Performance Package to allow for increased cornering dynamics, which is also aided by a reduction in compliance between the steering wheel and the tires. The tighter steering allows for more confidence and better straight-line power.
We’re not yet sure if the engine itself will have more power when optioned with the performance pack, but when we know, you’ll know. Instead, under the hood, you’ll find a strut tower brace to increase rigidity, while MagneRide active suspension is an available option.
The Performance Package is available for both the Coyote V8-powered S650 Mustang as well as the EcoBoost, with either the automatic or manual transmission. Manual transmission models feature active rev matching that will hold the engine at a specific speed when the clutch is engaged to nail every gear shift, adding to a more thrilling and enjoyable drive.
Inside the S650 Mustang, the seats have been upgraded to Recaro units to keep the driver in the right spot, and in the optimal position to operate the segment-first electronic drift brake. The Performance Electronic Parking Brake is engineered to allow both novices and pros alike to hone their drifting skills, on a closed track only, of course.
At the rear of the car, the axle features a Torsen limited-slip differential, as well as massive 355mm rear Brembo Brakes. Finally, the engine can give its full bellow with an active exhaust system.
Starting in the summer of 2023 customers will be able to get their hands on the all-new 2024 Ford Mustang in the United States, with pricing to be announced closer to the on-sale date.
