Professional Tool Reviews for Pros

The DeWalt DCD805 20V Hammer Drill (also available without the hammer mechanism as the DCD800) shaves 1/2-inch off the length of the DCD796 while providing up to 40% more Unit Watts Out. A more compact 20V Brushless hammer drill from DeWalt that adds even more power? Where do we sign up?

Aside from the shortened length and increased power, DeWalt still includes its manual 2-speed transmission and variable trigger. They also kept the same reliable ratcheting metal chuck that we’ve had good success with. Speed is the same as the DCD796 (we reviewed the DeWalt DCD797 hammer drill, the same tool but with Tool Connect built-in.)

With 2,000 RPM in High speed (650 RPM in Low), you should have a lot of success drilling through lumber for rough-ins or putting holes through sheet metal for electrical and plumbing applications. On concrete, the DCD805 hammer drill has 34,000 BPM in hammer mode which should translate into speedy drilling through concrete when using bits up to 1/2-inch in diameter.

The DeWalt DCD805 and DCD800 drills feature an adjustable 3-position LED light. We’ve never seen this before, and it looks like a great feature. The light has two levels of brightness and the “spotlight mode” increases the LED output to 70 lumens and adds a 20-minute timeout. Here’s how the positions on the switch above the LED light work:

Both the DeWalt DCD805 hammer drill and the DCD800 drill driver can accept the optional DeWalt Tool Connect chip (DCE042). This lets it sync with the Tool Connect Site Manager app for inventory tracking and checking tool status and health.

You can purchase both the DeWalt DCD805 20V Brushless 1/2-in. Hammer Drill and the DCD800 Drill Driver starting April 2022 as a bare tool or as part of various kits.
