None suffered serious injuries, but the home was destroyed

Twelve people are thankful to be alive following Monday’s tornado.

The 12 rode out the storm while stuck in a Kingston home – a home the tornado hit.

They say they survived by sheer luck.

Marcy Lamar’s neighborhood was hit hard, with roofs torn off buildings and homes, cars and trucks destroyed, and debris everywhere.

“We were watching the storm on TV and we could see the wind pick up outside of my door. Then we heard it. I went to look out the window and saw it hitting the neighbor’s house,” Lamar said.

Lamar was hosting a weekly game night at her house with 11 of her friends when the storm came barreling down on them.

"I said, 'run,' apparently, and everyone just ran. But we didn't know where we were running to,” she said.

Lamar said they tried to get to the bathroom but never made it.

“In the hole where that sheetrock is over there, we were back in there,” she said. “I don’t know how we are safe. We walked out with three head stitches and that is about it.”

The rest of her home was leveled in the estimated EF2 tornado.

“It’s a mess, but we have 12 people who are still alive,” she said.

Her family’s belongings were found hundreds of yards away. Some were lost forever. But she found some irreplaceable items.

"My wedding ring. I wear this one because this is so special I didn't want to lose it,” she said.

She said knowing she and others don’t have to go through the experience alone is helping her.

“I’m just glad we are in the kind of community we are in because everyone was here before we were even here,” she said.
