The Georgia football team’s fourth spring practice offered a chance for reporters to take their first look of the Bulldogs since the national championship season.

Kirby Smart opened practice for 20 minutes, the longest since before the pandemic.

Here are some observations from the Bulldogs working on two outdoor fields Tuesday afternoon on a breezy, sunny afternoon with temperatures in the mid 70s:

More:AD Mitchell talked and played a big game as a freshman. What's next for 'special talent?'

— Welcome back Arik Gilbert. The LSU transfer is working with the tight ends after being away from the team for personal reasons last season.

He looks every bit the 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds listed if not more. He caught a short pass over the middle during one drill.

— The starting offensive line under new (old) line coach Stacy Searels went like this from left to right: Broderick Jones, Xavier Truss, Sedrick Van-Pran Granger, Warren Ericson and Warren McClendon.

Former Georgia offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer, training for the NFL draft, dropped by to watch.

— Wide receiver Arian Smith was in a black non-contact jersey but was running routes on air and making catches after sustaining a broken leg last season. He hauled in a pass in the end zone from Carson Beck after the redshirt sophomore turned back to make the grab.

— New secondary coach Fran Brown was joined by co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp coaching up the secondary.

“Hey, off hand jam,” Muschamp told one DB.

— Tykee Smith had a brace on his surgically repaired knee after tearing an ACL last season. The West Virginia transfer DB is out for the spring.

--Offensive coordinator Todd Monken used some salty language (hey, it’s football practice) to make his point when short, red zone passes weren't completed with no defenders.

— Stetson Bennett connected with Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint on one throw as he worked with quarterbacks Beck, Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton who wore jersey No. 14.

— Georgia’s top receivers in one drill looked to be AD Mitchell, Kearis Jackson and Rosemy-Jacksaint with the tight end Ryland Goede. Brock Bowers and Darnell Washington are out for the spring.

 — Lining up offsides in a drill when Smart is watching over brought some corrective instructions to redshirt freshman Nyland Green.

— The sidelines were active with what looked like some visiting recruits, high school coaches and boosters on hand.

— Figuring out who some of the players were was a guessing game because the true freshman numbers are not listed on the roster yet.

— Georgia practices again this week on Thursday and Saturday.
